Rainbow Moonstone Festoon Necklace

This is a vintage Edwardian original and intact rainbow moonstone festoon bib necklace with original gloriously luminous rainbow moonstone cabochons set in open-backed 925 silver bezels. 

The festoon style is distinguished by its draped, cascading swags of stones and was heavily popularized by the British aristocracy.

This rainbow moonstone festoon bib necklace was designed  to sit flush against the collarbone to complement the low-necked, elegant silk and lace gowns worn by high-society women of the Edwardian era. Today, it compliments everything beautifully from a simple little black dress to the most elaborate bridal gown.

This necklace was probably made in Great Britain, Germany or Austria, where these necklaces were fashionable, while the rainbow moonstones are likely from Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka).
