Matthew Bruen is an English professor who also happens to have a bit of a trespassing problem. Ever since his childhood in the Pocono Mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania, Bruen has been exploring abandoned buildings, ghost towns, and other lost places. His writing and photography on these and other subjects has been published by Narratively, Aeon, and the University of Chicago Press. When he isn’t busy teaching, raising his two daughters, or climbing into sketchy haylofts of dilapidated barns, you can find him with a fly rod in hand on one of the many beautiful rivers of the Blue Ridge Mountain.
His article “Babies For Sale: The Secret Adoptions That Haunt One Georgia Town” was the inspiration for the TLC series Taken at Birth.
