“In these hypnotically readable books, Doctor Orient, as master of the right-handed path engages in deadly struggles with the focus of evil. Frank Lauria has written the most believable Vampire and Werewolf stories I have ever read.” — William S. Burroughs
Author Frank Lauria was born in Brooklyn, raised in New Jersey, and received his B.S. degree from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. When not traveling the world, he’s been a poet, book editor, Broadway and film actor, key welder, social worker, television writer, and lyricist. He currently lives in San Francisco with his wife, music manager Ellen Smith. He’s a Scorpio.
A contemporary of Burroughs and Jack Kerouac, Frank Lauria uses his beat era influences, along with travel experiences on freighters to Morocco, and decades of research on the roots, forms and rites of occult sciences in Italy and the Middle East to inform the Doctor Orient character. The result has been described by readers as “Indiana Jones meets Allen Watts” and “Siddhartha meets Sam Spade” with Lauria’s main character mixing eastern mysticism with hard boiled detective sensibilities in his adventures with relic hunters, dangerous women, spies, telepaths and nazis.
In addition to his latest title, Ice City Blues, Lauria’s other works include Fog City Blues, Chinatown Blues, Melody Dawn and the Dr. Orient book series which includes: Demon Pope, Raga Six, Baron Orgaz, The Priestess, Dr. Orient, The Seth Papers, Lady Sativa and Blue Limbo and are available via our friends at Open Road Media.
You can also hear Frank’s Art Rock band Uncle Frank and the Co-Defendants. Their debut “Lost in the Underground” is available now.

FOG CITY BLUES by Frank Lauria
How I had never heard of Frank Lauria before reading Fog City Blues is beyond me, because Frank Lauria can write. With 22 novels to his name, one would think I would have discovered his work sooner. But now, thanks to the good people at Rothco Press, Frank and his stable of strong characters are back on paper and e-paper alike. Fog City Blues is the first book in an all-new series and follows a man named Sam Devine on the brink of the 9/11 disaster. He is a hard drinking, drug induced addict that works for the DEA. But Sam, just like Franks writing, don’t play by the rules and instead follows his sharp instincts that get him tossed into some serious, deadly trouble. And all this in just the first 4 chapters! Eventually, Sam is forced to make some tough life decisions and soon we witness the birth of a new character for which this special series of books is named after: Max LeBlue. With action, adventure, and plenty of gritty street violence, Fog City Blues is a worthwhile and unforgettable read. I think I have a new favorite author. Click here to BUY IT NOW! – CHUCK RIOS
