Description

This 1940s Taxco Eagle Amethyst and Sterling Silver Necklace is adorned with two large half moon cut amethysts on its outstretched wings. A necklace is also attached. The whole necklace is 15.75 inches long. The 925 stamp is on the inside of the eagle's head on the reverse side. There also appears to be an "M" maker's mark. This could be the for Matilde Poulat, a prolific Taxco designer at the time.

The design is 1940s Taxco Silver. This raptor was acquired as part of a William Spratling and Taxco Designer Silver Collection and then sat under wraps for about 30 years.

Taxco de Alarcón is located just south of Mexico City. As with many places in this beautiful and culturally rich region of Mexico, it is proud of its Aztec roots. The eagle in Aztec culture was a Warrior of the Sun.
