Amethyst is a stone of clarity, focus and calmness. It's also a stone symbolizing pure emotional love. It's a gem cherished by Latin American, European and Levantine cultures. Amethysts are most associated with Dionysus and amethysts' name means, roughly, "not intoxicated". It was worn in rings by medieval catholic bishops and was one of the 12 stones of the breastplate belonging to Moses' brother Aaron.  Because of its relative scarcity in ancient times, amethysts were once as highly valued as diamonds. As a result amethysts are also the stone of royalty.
